Our Story
Hal and Liz Spaeth started The Markerboard People. We are still family-owned and operated. We have been serving educators from across the country for more than 40 years here in Lansing, Michigan.
Hal comes from a family of educators. It bothered him to watch students struggle with pencil and paper. When a kid tore their paper trying to erase, it tore at Hal's heart.
In 1982 Hal decided there had to be a better way. The lapboard he designed and created was double-sided and available in two sizes, 8"x11" and 11"x16.
One side was smooth, white and non-porous for dry erase markers or crayons. The other side was textured, black and non-porous for chalk.
Both sides were easy for kids to erase with just a soft cloth or erasers.
"Like getting two boards in one" - he said.
In yet another first, he put permanent guidelines on Student whiteboards. The lines were etched and locked into the surface and we still guarantee they will never come off.
Hal was also the first to make double-sided whiteboards. We now specialise in non-porous double-sided student dry erase boards. Lined on one side and blank on the other.
The Markerboard People has been serving educators from across the country for more than 40 years. Based in Lansing, MI, our whiteboard company is proud to produce all of our printed boards, as well as our markers and erasers, in the United States and sell them Factory Direct to schools, educators and businesses from across the country.
